Variation 01 · Photo Quilt

The quilt

When you want fast scan

Symmetric 2-column grid with row-level height variation. Pinterest energy without breaking the system's grid register. Tiles are 3:4 portrait with the canonical scrim and italic 28pt names. Indian flag dot (top-left chip) for India cities/states; country flag for abroad. Brass star top-right when active in the last 14 days. No header chrome — just a mono eyebrow with counts.

India city goes directly to places — no city sublevel. 320pt hero with italic title overlay; filter chips below; place mosaic with category dots top-right (bordeaux=eat, sage=stay, brass=do, sky=see, plum=drink).

Country drill-down shows cities first, not places. Same quilt visual as the home page — but the unit is cities, not collections. "All places (9)" link sits below for users who want to skip city navigation.
Variation 02 · Editorial Magazine

The magazine

When you want to savor

Vertical scroll of half-page magazine spreads, alternating photo-left / photo-right. Lots of breathing room, less density, more savor. Italic country/city names dominate; mono eyebrows tracked tight; brass page numbers in margins. Most native to the Daylight register — closest to a quietly-designed travel magazine.

One destination per spread. Photo and text alternate sides. Brass mono page-marker at top. Less seen at once than the quilt, but each one lingers longer.

A 3-line italic editorial intro sits between hero and place grid — a magazine convention. Promoted-from-state state shown as eyebrow ("PROMOTED FROM RAJASTHAN"). Everything else mirrors the quilt's place mosaic.

When the state surfaces as a rollup (no qualifying city dominates), each city inside gets its own magazine spread — same shape as the home page but recursive. White / pink / blue city works as quiet editorial flavor.
Variation 03 · Counter-proposal

The passport

Breaks register · Skeuomorphic stamps

A grid of "stamps" — square photos with slight rotations, perforated borders, brass postmarks. Collected stamps you've earned by saving reels. Risky on the editorial register but emotionally potent. Anchored to the system via canonical scrim and brass-only postmarks (no terracotta). Borders differ subtly: dashed for India city, dotted for state, dashed for foreign country.

Slight rotations make the page feel hand-stamped. Border styles differ: dashed (city), dotted (state), dashed-cool (country). Brass-only postmarks; the search bar is styled as a "customs declaration" line.

The Goa stamp lives at the top of its detail page (rotated, postmarked) next to a quiet italic blurb. Places are NOT stamps — only collections are. Inventory uses the same place mosaic as V1.

Country drill-down keeps the metaphor: each city is a stamp inside the country's "page". Empty stamp slot at the bottom invites adding more cities — quietly gamified collecting.
Variation 04 · Map utility + photo

The home + away

Map for India only · Photo wall for abroad

The only variation that puts a map in the chrome. India is home, abroad is dream. Top half is a tinted-Daylight India basemap with brass pins at saved cities/states. Bottom half is a vertical photo wall of foreign countries. The split takes the India-first thesis seriously at the chrome level — spatial recall where it matters, photographic memory where it doesn't.

Top half = real India basemap (tinted Daylight), brass pins sized by save count, square pins for states, round for cities. Bottom half = photo wall of foreign countries. The "abroad" pill at the divide is the visual seam.

Indian destinations keep a tiny ~86pt India-map sliver up top — anchors "this is in India" with a brass-haloed pin. The map asymmetry continues all the way down: Indian places get spatial context, foreign ones don't.

Foreign country drill-down stays photo-led, no map. Reinforces the asymmetry: India is mapped, abroad is photographed. Same quilt mosaic of city tiles as V1.
Variation 05 · Counter-proposal

The polaroids

Breaks register · Tactile / personal

Scattered polaroids on a soft cream surface, slight rotations, handwritten Caveat captions. Most personal of the lot — competes with Instagram Saved on emotion, not utility. Anchored to the system via the bone surface, warm shadow stack, and brass-only postmarks. Risky on the editorial register. If it works, it's the most distinctive Drift could feel.
